As Taylor drove down 35E towards her current job site in St. Paul, Minnesota, she found herself engrossed in the latest audiobook she had picked up. Determined to stick to her New Year’s resolution of consuming one book a month, she was now diving into the insights of “The 4-Hour Work Week.” The topic of the day was the importance of starting a company based on what you already know. As she navigated through the morning traffic, she couldn’t help but ponder, “Well, I know an awful lot about trying to find a therapist, but that seems too complicated.” Suddenly, a memory flashed in her mind: three years ago, she had attempted to start a blog about finding oneself in their twenties.

“Hmmm,” she mused, “What about starting a company all about finding your way in your 20s?” The idea wasn’t just good, it was brilliant. Taylor was passionate about mentoring younger women at her job site, and over the past five years since graduating, she had gathered a wealth of knowledge. She had always craved an instruction guide on how to live your best life in your twenties, and now she realized she could create one. An instruction manual for young women stepping into the real world. Within the span of ten minutes, the simple thought experiment had evolved into an obsessive idea.

Taylor’s mind raced with excitement as she thought back to the tools that had helped shape her into the woman she was today. Journaling stood out as a crucial component. That would be the heart of her new company. She envisioned a daily video to accompany the journal, condensing all the invaluable lessons she had learned from various books. But how could she ensure the lessons were remembered and applied? The answer came swiftly: an exercise to implement the day’s lesson. In the middle of traffic, she had transitioned from a person with a New Year’s resolution to a potential company founder.

In the following weeks, Taylor poured every spare moment into her budding company. She dedicated herself to researching, planning, and developing her idea. The questions were endless: What should she name her company? How do you create a product? How do you email suppliers? How do you start a company? Slowly but surely Empower Her 365 started to form.

March 2024

By this point, Taylor had a solid idea of where her company was heading. She determined that she would create a series of journals to teach young women how to live their best lives. There would be three journals.

The first: Find Yourself. A journal dedicated to the foundation of success in your 20s, figuring out who you are, and how to take care of yourself in this new stage of life.

The second: Master the Unknown. A journal all about mastering the topics that aren’t taught in school like finance, navigating one’s career, and planning trips.

The final one: Conquer the Future. A journal that guides young women on how to attain the future of their dreams with friendships, relationships, and facing their fears.

Once she had found all the topics, she set to work on the first journal, Find Yourself. She spent hours on her computer learning how to use Canva and fleshing out each day of the journal. “120 days, how hard could it be?” she thought to herself. After three weeks of hard work, the journal was complete. She began recording videos and incorporating the QR codes until she had a final product.

The next step was a website. WordPress, her old nemesis, had risen back from the dead. She watched video after video and after a week she had a semi-functioning website that she would improve upon over the next few months.

With a functional product and a website, she decided to start the work of forming an LLC. She filed the paperwork with Minnesota and on a Sunday night at 10 p.m., she had officially created her company. Please know that while she was filling out the paperwork, she was nearly having a heart attack; up until this point, her only encounter with the government was filing taxes.

By the end of March, Empower Her 365 LLC was officially a reality.

April 2024

Now she was ready to place an order, but the problem was every company she was considering was out of the country. So she patiently waited for samples to come in. More than anything, she wanted this to be a high-quality journal that even she would enjoy writing in.

Slowly, the samples started rolling in and there was a clear winner among them. After working with the company’s designers for a few weeks, she placed her order and began the long wait.

In the meantime, she decided to tackle the part she dreaded most: social media. Taylor is what you’d call a late adopter of social media. In 10 years, she had maybe posted 20 times to her Facebook. So, as you can imagine, the concept of managing three social media platforms and posting consistently was daunting, to say the least. But by the end of April, she had officially started an Instagram and Facebook page.

May 2024

At the beginning of May, her order of journals finally arrived. As she was talking with her boyfriend about the journals, he mentioned that the word “journal” really doesn’t do it justice. “What about an empowerment guide?” And that, my friends, is how the product got its name.

Taylor continued studying social media well into May. So much so that by the end of the month, she was batching content and even received 1,000 views on a single reel. It may not seem like a lot, but she did a happy dance that day.

May was mainly dedicated to preparing for the launch. She generated a ton of content, started a LinkedIn page, created a bank account, and placed an order for mailers that her boyfriend had designed.

May was by far the most hectic month because she was working towards a deadline.
